About Skillio

Skillio is a Finnish B2B learning platform that helps companies build AI and data skills in their people. We combine a skills backend, personalised learning paths, AI-evaluated exercises and an AI Coach, and we generate learning content with our own AI content engine.

We are a small, fast-moving team, and our clients range from startups like Vainu to enterprises like Danfoss. Our own way of building software is AI-native, and we teach the same practices to our clients.

The role

You will join as a full-stack engineering intern with a frontend focus. Most of your time goes into the screens our learners and client admins use every day. You will work in our production codebase from week one, on real tickets that ship to real users. Quality assurance is part of the job: you help make sure what we ship works. As you grow into the codebase, you will also make the backend changes your frontend features need.

This is a developer role with a strong eye for UI, not a design role. Our design system and UX decisions are set; your job is to implement them, in light and dark themes, on every screen size, and to point out when something doesn't work in practice.

What you'll work on

  • Polishing the learner experience: lesson pages, exercises, progress views and the AI Coach chat.
  • Building and refining pages in the client dashboard, where companies follow their learners' progress.
  • Applying our design tokens and theming consistently, including accessibility (contrast, keyboard use, semantic HTML).
  • Writing component tests for what you build.
  • Quality assurance: testing new features and releases across browsers, devices and both themes, and reporting issues clearly so they can be fixed.
  • Fixing UI bugs and front-end performance issues.
  • Later, with a more experienced engineer: framework and library upgrades in the web app.
  • Over time: the backend changes your frontend features need, such as API endpoints and data handling in our Python services.

What we're looking for

  • Growth mindset. You want to move forward and learn new things, and you are willing to put in the effort needed for that.
  • Startup fit. We move fast and things change sometimes every day - this should sound inspiring for you to succeed and enjoy the work.
  • TypeScript and React. You are comfortable with hooks, context, props and component composition, and you type your code properly.
  • Tailwind CSS and modern CSS. You understand CSS custom properties and how theming works, and you care about spacing, states and responsive layouts.
  • Backend basics. You have built or worked on an API or backend in some language, understand how a frontend talks to it, and want to grow into backend work (our services are Python).
  • Git and pull requests. You work in branches, keep commits small, write clear PR descriptions and take review feedback well.
  • Testing and QA habits. You write component tests without being asked (we use Vitest), and you test your work by hand before calling it done.
  • AI-assisted development, with judgement. You use tools like Claude Code or GitHub Copilot daily, and you can explain and check the code they produce before you submit it.
  • Accessibility basics. You know WCAG contrast, keyboard navigation and semantic HTML.
  • Clear written English. You can read a ticket and its comment thread, ask good questions and explain your own work in writing.
  • Independence. You can take a well-defined ticket and get it done, and you ask early when you're stuck.

Nice to have

  • Experience with shadcn/ui or Radix UI components.
  • React Router, recharts or Mermaid.
  • Using React DevTools to find and fix unnecessary re-renders.
  • Reading designs in Figma.
  • Hands-on Python experience, for example building REST APIs, and familiarity with Firebase.
  • Interest in learning, edtech or AI.
  • Finnish language skills.

How you'll be supported

You will have a mentor on the product side and technical support from our engineers.

  • Product mentor (Stefan, Product Lead): sets your priorities, writes and explains your tickets, reviews whether finished work meets the product and design bar, and runs a weekly one-to-one.
  • Technical support (our CTO and platform engineer): answer technical questions and review every pull request before it ships.

You'll see how product decisions are made and how they turn into shipped code.
